Just for the record

October 29, 2012
On the way to work, I had the entire bus to myself.

A different point of view

I don't get to say this often, but recently I got to see Chicago from a different angle. Can you guess where?

Can you spot the differences?

Same week. Same location.

Ain't nothin' but...

It's fun to have Elvis sing to you and give you his scarf. But...what do you do with it afterwards?

You take a picture and then throw it away.

Thanks Elvis!

Dust to dust

I regret to report the status of the single lost sock from my previous entry:

Familiar faces

As the sun came up, I saw this guy peeking at me through the window!

Welcome back, friend!

Escape

I stole away to Michigan for Labor Day with Jamie:

Although this is probably more like it:

Enjoyed quiet mornings over tea:

And ate soul nourishing food:

Explored small towns:

Saw Lake Michigan from the other side:

Encountered dinosaurs:

Discovered the road to Hogwarts (if you want to drive instead of taking a train):

And did it all in my dream car:

And learned a valuable lesson about wearing sunblock while in said dream car:

My thoughts exactly

I just love this city.
I love that this rotating monstrosity is just part of my walk home.
I love to think about what it means to the passing masses. If I had my hands on a paranormal activity sensor, I imagine the needle would be off the charts with Specters.

Siren's

You guys, I really think I found my calling: champion of abandoned toys.

But not forgotten

If I had the time (or energy) I'd start a photo blog dedicated to lost and discarded toys and call it The Velveteen Blog.

All good things must...they just must

This wallet has been sitting on my coffee table for a week now.

After carrying this bad boy around with me for three years, I officially retired it last week and since then haven't been able to throw it away. I certainly don't want it anymore. It's on its last legs. But I realized this afternoon that I just need to acknowledge what this wallet means to me before I send it off.

I bought this wallet at a dollar store, of all places. But it was in a dollar store in Japan, on the very first day of a 3 month sabbatical that I consider to be the start of...something good? Healing? Revolutionary? Let's just say my life has changed drastically since that day.

Anyway, this wallet has seen me through Tokyo, Nagoya, Kyoto, Tel Aviv, Jerusalem, New Orleans, Milwaukee, Toronto, San Francisco and Austin. It's been with me through three moves, three jobs and many boys. It held important moments in my life - from my food stamps debit card to tickets to see my favorite podcast.

And it's been mine - because let's be honest. NOBODY else has a PINK faux alligator skin wallet.

Goodbye friend! Thanks for your years of service.

And with the end of an era comes the start of a new one. I wonder where this guy will see me go!

Success!

Adventure cat seeks to right all wrongs. Or at least smell them.

Well obviously...

I was getting nervous because I couldn't find Orion. I thought I had seen him jump up into the closet earlier (the one place I really hate him going). So I'm standing there, calling his name when suddenly I realize I'm looking him right in the face...

Can't find him either? Here's a close up:

I just had to drop the phone and rescue him because he was trying to get out...unsuccessfully.

Indeed it is

First day of June and I arrive at the office to find this on my digital picture frame

What are the odds?

Good boy

For his birthday, I bought Orion a leash. I never thought I would be that person. But...we have a few cat walkers in my neighborhood which got me started on the idea. And, well, fuck the stereotypes - I think it would really fun and that Orion would love it. Of course, cats don't take to leashes the way dogs do - so its a process to actually get him outside.

Step one - get him used to the harness.

So far I am enjoying this step far more than he is. Every time I put it on him, he lolls around the house, flopping and rolling over until he finally tuckers himself out.

Detour

Halsted was blocked off from George to Diversey - so my bus took an emergency detour down some sidestreets. Haha!! I have NEVER seen a bus on a tiny little neighborhood street. Kinda wish I was enjoying the view from outside rather than in here. We must have looked so strange.

Well that's new

The whole train is yellow.
Of course, if you're selling orange juice, wouldn't you want to make it orange?
